Scrabble Board Games
Scrabble board games have existed since the 1930s. The
precursor to Scrabble was a game known as Lexiko. This was invented
in 1931 by a man named Alfred Mosher Butts.
This game was rejected by many games manufacturers. This prompted the
same man to create the first incarnation of the Scrabble board games,
known as Criss-Crosswords. This was designed in 1938. It carried over
the same design of the letter tiles, but brought in many other elements
such as the 15 squares by 15 squares layout.
These first Scrabble board games still didn’t market very well.
Ten years later, however, a man named James Brunot bought the rights
to the game. He was responsible for several changes to the game, including
the title. Three years later he was unable to keep up with the demand
himself and also sold the manufacturing rights.
