Monopoly Board Game
The Monopoly board game has its origins in the early 1900s.
Its first incarnation was developed in 1904. This was known as The Landlord’s
Game.
This earlier version of the Monopoly board game was created by a Quaker
woman named Elizabeth Magie. The reason she designed the game was to
demonstrate the economic principles of Georgism. In this way, the game
was designed as a political and educational tool.
By the early 1930s a Monopoly board game was being sold. The creation
of the popular version used today has been credited to Charles Darrow.
It was first published by Parker Brothers.
